What does BIM mean and what is its purpose?

BIM is an approach based on building data modeling, which enables a digital model to be collaboratively enriched with project information for the structure, both in design, construction and operation/maintenance. This representation of 3D objects and associated data, also known as a BIM model, gives access to all the information on a structure.
