Springvale Community Hub: A Giant LED Screen to Energise Public Spaces and Boost Community Engagement
Equans Digital Deploys an Innovative Outdoor LED Screen at the Heart of the Springvale Community Hub
At the Springvale Community Hub, a new multifunctional community center in the City of Greater Dandenong in Melbourne, Equans Digital has designed and integrated a unique audiovisual solution combining a large-format outdoor LED screen, an immersive sound system, and event broadcasting infrastructure. Conceived as a true tool for revitalizing the local area, the project transforms the public space into a place for gathering, information, and sharing that is accessible to all.
Springvale Community Hub: A Space Dedicated to Cultural and Community Life
The Springvale Community Hub is a next-generation public facility that combines a library, exhibition spaces, community rooms, learning spaces, a conference center, and landscaped outdoor areas. The goal of this ambitious project was to create a space that fosters exchange, learning, culture, and social cohesion within the local community.
To extend this experience beyond the building itself, the municipality wanted to implement an audiovisual infrastructure capable of displaying dynamic content on a large scale and fostering interactions with residents.
The Challenges of the Audiovisual & Video Project
Designing an innovative audiovisual space capable of connecting the community, content, and urban living spaces.
The project had to address several technical and operational challenges: ensuring optimal visibility in daylight, enabling the live broadcast of events, facilitating remote content management, and transforming public spaces into true hubs of community activity. The infrastructure also had to integrate with the city’s digital strategy and remain fully operational in an outdoor environment subject to weather conditions.
The screen was to be installed on a north-facing facade and remain clearly visible regardless of lighting conditions, particularly in direct sunlight.
The goal was to develop a new platform for sharing content that would inform, raise awareness, and enliven local life through the sharing of videos, cultural events, educational content, and public information.
The city wanted to be able to manage content and events from various municipal sites without having to systematically deploy on-site teams.
The new system needed to be able to communicate with the other audiovisual equipment on the municipal network so that audio and video streams could be easily shared across multiple sites.

The solution deployed by Equans Digital
To meet the goals of the City of Greater Dandenong, Equans Digital worked closely with city staff and the various project partners to design a fully integrated audiovisual solution.
The installation features a VuePix outdoor LED screen measuring 6.5 meters wide by 3 meters high, specially designed for the project. Mounted on a custom-built motorised structure, the screen can pivot up to 45 degrees to provide an optimal viewing angle for spectators in the surrounding outdoor areas.
This technical feat allows the display to be adapted to events while protecting the installation through an automated system that takes weather conditions into account.
To ensure optimal readability in daylight, Equans Digital has deployed a high-brightness LED display capable of reaching 5,000 nits. This technology ensures that text, graphics, and video content are displayed with excellent contrast and visibility even under the most demanding conditions.
The screen is connected to the city’s 40 Gb/s fiber-optic network, enabling real-time sharing of audio and video content between various devices and locations throughout the city. This architecture facilitates the simultaneous broadcasting of events, the sharing of institutional content, and the creation of connected spaces across the entire city.
The system was designed around a modern IP architecture that integrates networked video and audio technologies, enabling remote control, monitoring, and content production. Motorised cameras also allow for live streaming of events while reducing operational constraints.
The screen is complemented by a professional audio system that delivers an immersive sound experience suitable for public events as well as cultural and educational content. This combination of image and sound helps transform the public square into a true venue for presentations and entertainment.
