What is OT/IT convergence?

OT/IT convergence refers to the harmonious integration of operational technologies (OT) - industrial systems and physical infrastructures (automated systems, sensors) - with information technologies (IT), such as IT management systems (cloud, networks).

Why is OT/IT convergence essential?

• Operational data: Connected equipment generates massive volumes of data. OT/IT can capture this data in real time and contextualise it via IT systems to extract actionable information.
• Optimising performance and energy efficiency: By integrating OT data into IT platforms, we facilitate precise facility management, predictive maintenance and energy savings.
• Security and business continuity: Convergence ensures flexible, secure infrastructures, with proactive cybersecurity management essential in the face of growing risks.
• Informed, sustainable decision-making: By centralising and orchestrating IoT/IT data, decision-makers gain a clear, analytical view of their assets, enabling them to act quickly and responsibly.

Concrete examples of IoT/IT convergence:

• Smart Building: Integration of building management systems (BMS) with IT platforms for centralised, automated control of heating, ventilation, lighting and security.
• Industry 4.0: Collection and analysis of data from machines and production lines (MES, SCADA), synchronised with ERP and maintenance systems (CMMS) to optimise operations, reduce downtime and anticipate breakdowns thanks to AI.
• Energy management for urban infrastructures: Orchestration of energy and environmental data to control consumption, reduce carbon footprints and comply with sustainable standards.

In a nutshell

IoT/IT convergence at Equans Digital is much more than simply connecting systems: it's an intelligent integration strategy that transforms data into concrete levers for performance, safety and sustainability.
