Confluent Private Hospital: Improving the Reliability of Hospital Infrastructure Through Smart Monitoring and Better Energy Management
Confluent Private Hospital: Improving the Reliability of Hospital Infrastructure Through Smart Monitoring and Better Energy Management
In a hospital, every piece of technical data can impact the continuity of care
How can you ensure the smooth operation of a hospital where hundreds of pieces of technical equipment contribute every day to the quality of care and patient comfort?
To address this challenge, the Confluent Private Hospital in Nantes chose Equans Digital to modernise the monitoring of its technical infrastructure. The goal: to centralise the management of more than 100 controllers from different manufacturers, strengthen monitoring of critical environments, improve the site’s energy monitoring, and prepare for the future with a scalable architecture capable of supporting the development of new facilities.
Thanks to a single smart building platform, technical teams now have a comprehensive view of their facilities, 24/7 alarm monitoring, and analytical tools that facilitate the continuous optimisation of the building’s performance.
The challenge: ensuring continuity of care through a centralised monitoring platform for the entire facility
Faced with the diversity of its technical equipment and the gradual obsolescence of its legacy systems, the Confluent Private Hospital sought to modernise its technical monitoring system while preserving its existing infrastructure. The facility was looking for a solution capable of:
- centralising the monitoring of the building’s technical equipment;
- replace two legacy monitoring platforms;
- Integrate more than 100 controllers from different manufacturers;
- communicate using multiple industrial protocols;
- ensure continuous monitoring of critical facilities;
- improve the monitoring and analysis of energy consumption;
- support the facility’s future developments.
Another challenge was ensuring the continuity of operations at a hospital facility that operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, without disrupting patient care.
The solution deployed by Equans Digital: a single smart building platform to monitor the entire site
To meet the hospital’s needs, Equans Digital’s experts worked with the hospital’s technical teams to evaluate and implement a solution tailored to the diversity of the existing infrastructure.
The smart building platform developed by Mitsubishi Electric Iconics Digital Solutions was selected for its ability to communicate with multiple industrial protocols and integrate equipment from different brands. It now monitors more than 100 controllers spread across the site, notably via the BACnet IP and Modbus IP protocols.
The integrated equipment comes from several manufacturers, including Beckhoff, Honeywell SAIA, Sofrel, Carel, and Siemens.
The smart building platform provides 24/7 monitoring of the building’s technical alarms. Alarms pinpointed directly on floor plans allow maintenance teams to identify the source of a malfunction more quickly.
The solution also allows for monitoring the operating parameters of the systems, including:
- PID settings;
- operating times;
- technical equipment;
- domestic hot water temperature;
- systems associated with hospital infrastructure.
The platform collects, records, and stores operational data from various technical systems. Real-time monitoring, data logging, and trend analysis features provide a better understanding of how equipment operates and how energy consumption changes over time.
Historical data helps, in particular, to optimise heating control strategies and temperature management in sensitive environments, such as operating rooms.
The deployed architecture includes:
- a primary virtual machine;
- a redundant server to improve reliability and enable load balancing;
- 5 client workstations providing access to supervision and monitoring tools.
This configuration allows multiple users to access technical data simultaneously without any service interruption.
The platform is also scalable. It will be able to integrate new systems—including cooling units and air handling units associated with the operating rooms—as the hospital expands.
A second hospital facility is currently under development in the region. Ultimately, the organisation plans to leverage the smart building platform’s architecture to monitor both sites from a centralised environment.
This architecture will consolidate the following within a single interface:
- technical alarms;
- energy performance;
- equipment status;
- operational data from multiple facilities.
Why Choose Equans Digital: Our Key Differentiators for the Confluent Private Hospital
As part of this strategic project, the Confluent Private Hospital was seeking a partner capable of combining expertise in critical environments, mastery of monitoring systems, and a long-term vision for technical infrastructure. Thanks to its expertise in Smart Building, Building Management Systems (BMS), hypervision and energy performance, Equans Digital has designed a solution capable of integrating heterogeneous equipment, centralising the management of technical data, and supporting the site’s future developments. This approach now provides the facility with a reliable, scalable monitoring system that is perfectly tailored to the requirements of the healthcare sector.
Tangible benefits for the performance, safety, and operation of hospital infrastructure
Thanks to the implementation of a centralised monitoring platform, the Confluent Private Hospital now benefits from greater visibility into its technical infrastructure, continuous monitoring of its critical equipment, and more precise energy management. This Smart Building approach enables operations teams to respond more quickly, optimise building performance, and have a scalable architecture capable of supporting the facility’s future developments.
Thanks to a centralised monitoring platform, technical teams have a single point of access to monitor and control all equipment on the site. Despite the variety of manufacturers, protocols, and legacy systems present at the facility, data is now accessible through a single interface, simplifying daily operations and improving operational efficiency.
24/7 monitoring enables faster identification of anomalies that could impact the operation of hospital infrastructure. By displaying alarms directly on building floor plans and providing immediate access to related technical data, maintenance teams can diagnose malfunctions more effectively and respond more quickly.
Analysing historical data and performance metrics provides greater insight into the behavior of technical systems. Teams can analyse consumption trends, optimise control strategies, and adjust equipment operation to sustainably improve the site’s energy efficiency while maintaining the comfort and service quality standards specific to the hospital environment.
Designed to adapt to the facility’s evolving needs, the solution deployed by Equans Digital provides a solid foundation for future modernisation or expansion projects. The integration of new equipment, technical systems, or hospital sites can be carried out gradually without disrupting the existing monitoring environment, thereby ensuring the long-term viability of the investments made.
