A truly transformative project for the city of Ballarat, the Ballarat GovHub was designed to accommodate up to 1,000 employees from various government departments in a modern, collaborative, and sustainable environment. To support this vision, Equans Digital has deployed a comprehensive audiovisual infrastructure that integrates collaboration solutions, videoconferencing systems, training spaces, and wireless presentation technologies. The goal: to provide a consistent and intuitive user experience for all occupants while fostering new hybrid work models.
Ballarat GovHub: a flagship project at the heart of the city’s development
Located in the heart of Ballarat, the Ballarat GovHub is a new government hub designed to bring together several public agencies under one roof. This modern facility was designed to support the revitalisation of the downtown area, foster synergies among various public services, and promote long-term local economic development.
The building accommodates up to 1,000 employees across five floors and includes more than 50 spaces dedicated to collaboration, training, meetings, and internal events. To meet the needs of the various government agencies on the site, it was essential to implement audiovisual technologies that are easy to use, high-performance, and suited to a variety of applications.
The Challenges of the Audiovisual & Video Project at the Ballarat GovHub
Designing an audiovisual environment capable of meeting the needs of multiple government agencies while offering a simple, consistent, and high-performance experience.
Designed as a collaborative space bringing together multiple government departments, the Ballarat GovHub needed to rely on modern audiovisual infrastructure that supports hybrid work, cross-team collaboration, and operational efficiency. The solutions deployed had to ensure intuitive day-to-day use, adapt to a wide variety of applications and equipment, and meet the building’s performance and sustainability goals.
The Ballarat GovHub brings together numerous government departments, each with its own work processes and digital tools. One of the main challenges was to provide a consistent and intuitive user experience that would meet the needs of all building occupants while simplifying the day-to-day use of audiovisual equipment.
The project was designed to facilitate communication between different public services, promote hybrid work, and enable users to collaborate effectively, whether they were on-site or working remotely. The audiovisual spaces therefore needed to incorporate videoconferencing, wireless presentation, and collaboration solutions tailored to a wide variety of user profiles.
In an environment shared by multiple government agencies, the systems had to support the use of various personal and work devices through a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) approach, while ensuring simplicity and reliability.

The equipment and interfaces have been standardised to ensure a consistent user experience across all areas of the GovHub and on multiple government websites. This standardisation reduces training needs, improves tool adoption, and facilitates infrastructure operations.
Motion sensors have been installed to automatically turn off equipment when it is not in use. This approach helps reduce the building's energy consumption while optimising operating costs.
