The GE Renewable Energy subsidiary plans to triple the size of its Gaspésie plant in order to start producing blades for offshore wind farms, in particular to meet demand in the northeastern USA and Europe.

The aim: to manufacture the world's largest blades, position the company as an international leader and secure its future for at least 10 years. The future blades will measure 107 meters in length, the equivalent of an American soccer field, and will be destined for the offshore market. In this context, Equans and its subsidiary Contrôles AC designed and installed a building automation system to control the production environment of the wind turbine blades and guarantee compliance with critical temperature and humidity points, as well as air quality for the workers.

The main challenge of this project lay in the requirements for rapid delivery of the automation system in a major industrial context.

The expertise mobilized for this automation project includes the configuration, installation and integration of HVAC controllers (automation expertise): 1,200 control points and 35 main controllers.
