To improve the management of crises, major events, and security operations within the Brussels region, Brussels Prevention & Security (BPS) has established a regional crisis center equipped with next-generation audiovisual infrastructure. Equans Digital supported this strategic project by designing and integrating a comprehensive visualisation, collaboration, and monitoring solution that enables the various security services to share information in real time and coordinate their actions effectively.
A nerve center dedicated to crisis and security management
Located on a highly secure site, the new regional crisis center serves as the Brussels Region’s operational headquarters for managing major incidents, public events, and emergency situations. Designed as a true command center, it brings together the various security and emergency response agencies to facilitate decision-making and the coordination of operations.
The site includes, in particular, a strategic control room, several coordination areas, and meeting rooms for the various services involved in crisis management.
The Challenges of the Audiovisual & Video Project at the Brussels Regional Crisis Center
Designing a command center capable of centralising, visualising, and sharing critical information in real time.
To address the security challenges facing the Belgian capital, the crisis center needed to rely on a reliable, high-performance audiovisual infrastructure capable of bringing together multiple sources of information within a single collaborative environment. Operators needed to have a comprehensive overview of the situation while facilitating communication between the various departments involved.
The center was designed to enable the simultaneous viewing of thousands of video feeds from various camera networks spread throughout the region.
Federal police, local police, emergency services, the prosecutor's office, transportation security agencies, and other specialized organisations needed to be able to work together within a single environment that facilitated information sharing and decision-making.
Operational teams needed to be able to access critical information quickly through an intuitive interface and collaborative tools designed for emergency situations.
In the context of public safety, the audiovisual infrastructure had to offer a high level of reliability to ensure business continuity at all times.

The solution deployed by Equans Digital
Equans Digital designed and integrated the entire audiovisual solution in collaboration with Bruxelles Prevention & Security and the various project partners. The goal was to create a monitoring and collaboration environment capable of meeting the highest operational requirements.
At the heart of the system is a control room that allows operators to view, in real time, the information needed to manage incidents and crisis situations. The system centralises and simultaneously displays feeds from several thousand cameras located throughout the Brussels region.
The platform enables the use of footage from urban video surveillance networks, transportation infrastructure, and surveillance systems in various police districts. Operators can quickly search for events, analyse data, and monitor situations in real time from a single workstation.
To facilitate communication among the various security stakeholders, Equans Digital has deployed a strategic table that can accommodate up to 32 participants. Equipped with microphones and retractable screens, it enables the instant sharing of video feeds, operational data, and working documents needed to manage incidents.
The audiovisual platform also enables the sharing of information with stakeholders outside the crisis center in order to streamline coordination among the various agencies involved in public safety.
Touchscreens, operator consoles, image analysis tools, a dedicated data room, and encoding infrastructure have been integrated into a single architecture that ensures centralized, reliable, and user-friendly operation.
