Enabling intelligent, sustainable management of district energy systems
Equans is a major partner in the Innovate Energy group, responsible for modernizing, maintaining and operating a district energy system (DES) consisting of a network of heating and cooling plants coupled with known distribution networks for the Government of Canada.
In the heart of Ottawa, 80 buildings depend on heating services and 67 on the cooling network, including the Parliament Buildings. A five-year modernization program aims to improve the efficiency of the DES infrastructure, in three stages - transition, design-build and modernization of operations and management.
Equans was involved in the design and construction phases. Our team is responsible for the successful modernization of three energy centers during the 35-year operation and maintenance (O&M) phase. In this context, Equans provides O&M services and integrated digital solutions that focus on preventive and corrective maintenance and continuous performance management, from existing to modernized phases.
The digital solutions implemented on this project enable
- Optimized asset management,
- Lifecycle management and optimization,
- Corrective and preventive maintenance,
- Real-time monitoring of assets,
- Dashboards, analysis and performance indicators,
- KPI deduction tracking (payment mechanism),
- Space and comfort management,
- Energy information management system.
Equans' integrated O&M and digital services aim to ensure the proper distribution of heat for the citizens of the City of Ottawa, with a focus on citizen comfort, energy efficiency and decarbonization of the city's facilities.
